Val Weedon MBE, Our Honorary President, has a remarkable story from working in the music industry during the Swinging Sixties, through to experiencing severe noise problems in her south London home in Thamesmead, to her emergence as one of the leading anti-noise campaigners of her generation. Working alongside comedian Spike Milligan, who was patron for the campaign The Right to Peace and Quiet that she set up in 1991 to deal with the issue of neighbour and neighbourhood noise, Val went on to receive an MBE for that work.
In the year 2000 she was a key founder of the UK Noise Association (UKNA), collaborating with her fellow anti-noise campaigners. During the early years of UKNA, Val became Coordinator, which allowed her to work closely with MPs, Ministers, Senior Civil Servants and organisations involved in noise reduction and control. Val was instrumental in setting an All-Party Parliamentary Group on Noise that involved MPs from across all political parties. Val has carried out many television, radio, magazine and newspaper interviews. She also contributed a chapter on Neighbour/Neighbourhood Noise in the book Why Noise Matters and produced her own booklet called The Quiet Guide. |
