UK Noise Association celebrates
Noise Awareness Day 2022

Picture
The UK Noise Association is a voluntary non-charitable, non profit making campaigning organisation. At present it is being run by a group of people with proven expertise in noise and many years of experience campaigning on the issue.

The Noise Association is our charitable wing that carries out research and produces publications from time to time.
Both bring together a coalition of key organisations lobbying on different aspects of noise.  We highlight noise problems but our focus is on solutions.  We believe a quieter world is possible.

Our contact details are at the top of the page and a Contact Form at the bottom of this page.
Unfortunately, though, we are not in a position to assist people with individual noise problems our
helpful links page includes details of bodies which can help.

Welcome from our Honorary President, Val Weedon MBE.

A QUIET WORD

In 1991 I embarked on a local campaign to highlight the problem of neighbour noise after my partner and I had been forced to move house following a year long dispute with a noisy anti-social neighbour.  That local campaign turned into a national campaign and nine years further down the line I had made contact with many other campaigners involved in actively trying to do something about noise that impacted in many types of forms.
As well as neighbour noise, there was community noise, traffic noise, aircraft noise, wind turbine noise, industrial noise and background noise (or piped music).  Together,  we would meet regularly to share our concerns at this growing menace.  Then in the year 2000 we decided to set up a coalition and call ourselves the UK Noise Association.   We managed to secure some funding that enabled us to influence  politicians and policy makers.  In 2011 our book Why Noise Matters was published. Highly recommended for those wanting to know more.
Although we have a small amount of funding remaining, all our work these days is carried out voluntarily by a small team of dedicated UK Noise Association activists.   As an organisation we believe that noise reduction is achievable, but we are also realistic that it is an on-going problem with new issues rearing its ugly head all the time.   A lot of noise reduction is down to simple behaviour modification and the rest is down to the will of politicians, planners, policy makers and the manufacturing industry producing quieter products for the future.

We hope you will do your bit and help make the world a quieter place.
